Contact Lenses

Contact Lenses

When it comes to vision correction, contact lenses give you crisp all-round vision, the freedom to be active and a fresh look. And almost everybody can wear them! Our youngest contact lenses wearer is 7 and our eldest is 92.

Contact lenses move with your eyes to give you a full field of focused vision, wherever you look. They are great for everyday wear, and active lifestyles.

Technological advancements mean that the vast majority of our patients would be able to wear lenses to suit their needs and indeed many of them do. If you have never worn lenses before or had previously worn them but dropped out of contact lens wear for whatever reason, come and see you and you could be surprised. Only qualified Opticians will carry out the fitting of contact lenses along with the method of insertion and removal of them, giving you the best care and opportunity of providing you with suitable contact lenses.

We would recommend lenses with UV blocking technology where possible. Whilst not a substitute for sunglasses with UV protection, they work together covering and protecting a greater surface of the eye.

Types of contact lenses

Daily disposable (soft)

Due to continuous development and the nature of modern day life these are the most popular lenses. These are ideal for daily use through to occasional wear. They can reduce the likelihood of infection and are easy to manage (no solutions). These are available in single vision, multifocal and with or without astigmatism. Available with UV blocking technologies.

Reusable lenses (soft)

These are usually 2 weekly or monthly disposable and require solutions and cleaning. These are available in single vision, multifocal and with or without astigmatism. Available with UV blocking technologies.

Extended Wear lenses (soft)

These lenses can be kept in your eyes on a longer basis, even while you sleep. Some can be worn up to 6 nights and seven days continuously and other worn up to 30 days straight. Available with UV blocking technologies.

Multi focal lenses (soft)

These enable you to see near and far and can eliminate the need for reading glasses.

Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses

The use of these lenses are significantly reduced due to the advancements in soft lens technology but these lenses are still used in the first instance if the prescription is particularly complex and outside the range of conventional soft contact lenses.

Contact Lens Club

Contact Lens Club

By paying monthly by standing order, for frequent wearers this is the most cost effective and simple method of buying lenses and services.

There is great value and includes the following;

- Eye Examinations

- Contact lenses aftercares

- Contact lens products

- 10% off complete spectacles

- Free trials of the latest lenses

How the scheme works

1. You would need to have an eye examination and contact lenses fitting/ aftercare and if required, tuition on insertion and removal of contact lenses. These are the only upfront costs.

2. You will then be provided with 3 or 6 months of contact lenses which you will pay for in arrears by standing order

The details

- There is no fixed term and is entirely flexible

- It works rather like a gym membership (there is no backdating of payments) - you are covered for professional services on an ongoing basis whilst paying and will provide contact lenses as requested by you.

Contact Lenses - Insertion and Removal video

For first time wearers, or those that need a refresher, we carry out a tutorial on a 1-2-1 basis with a qualified Optician at the practice. The aim is to make you not only proficient in the insertion and removal of lenses, but confident.
